Verdanni Character Creation¶
Verdanni characters are well suited to playstyles that reward positioning, foresight, adaptation, and indirect influence. They excel at shaping environments, manipulating long-term outcomes, and applying pressure over time rather than resolving problems immediately.

They are often diplomats, saboteurs, planners, scholars, agitators, caretakers, or quiet revolutionaries. A Verdanni adventurer rarely charges first, but they often know exactly where the fight will end.
Core Traits¶
- Attribute Bonus: +1 Cunning
- Innate Traits: Root Down, Verdant Control
Verdanni favor quick perception, pattern recognition, and adaptive thinking. Their strength lies in understanding systems, relationships, and consequences rather than overpowering opponents.
Size and Movement¶
- Size: Medium
- Movement: Standard
Verdanni vary widely in height and build, but most fall within the range of Humans and Dazhdvog. Their movement is unhurried, deliberate, and grounded. They rarely rush unless a plan has already reached its final stage.
Appearance and Seasonal Expression¶
Verdanni bodies are formed of living plant matter rather than flesh. Their appearance shifts subtly with the seasons, both physically and socially.
Common traits include:
- Bark-like textures along limbs or torso.
- Leaf-veined skin patterns.
- Flowering or petal-like coloration on hands, feet, faces, or hair.
Seasonal expression is cultural as much as biological:
- Spring-touched Verdanni often show blossoms, pale greens, and lighter coloration.
- Summer-touched Verdanni appear vibrant, lush, and richly green.
- Autumn-touched Verdanni display reds, golds, browns, and seed-pods.
- Winter-touched Verdanni fade toward pale wood, frost-white leaves, or bare bark tones.
These shifts are gradual and do not determine personality, but they influence how others read a Verdanni at a glance.
Gender, Sex, and Reproduction¶
Verdanni do not have biological sex or fixed genders.
- Any two Verdanni may mix seeds to create offspring.
- Presentation may be masculine, feminine, mixed, or fluid, depending on personal preference, season, or social role.
- Reproduction is intentional, planned, and often political.
Children are commonly raised in groves or extended households rather than nuclear families.
Background Hooks¶
When creating a Verdanni character, consider:
- Which principality raised them.
- Which season they most strongly identify with, and why.
- Whether they are openly opposed to the Sektarri Empire, quietly subversive, or strategically cooperative.
- What long-term change they are trying to bring about.
A Verdanni adventurer almost always has a reason for leaving home, even if that reason is not immediately visible.
Names¶
Verdanni names tend to be lyrical, symbolic, and often tied to seasons, plants, or virtues. Titles such as Prince or Princess indicate social standing, not inheritance.
Example Verdanni names include:
Aurelian, Briessa, Calavere, Elowyn, Faelori, Ilexa, Marrowen, Silvaris, Thesani, Virello, Ysolde, Zanthera.
Names may change over time, especially after major political shifts, personal transformations, or seasonal rites.
Restrictions and Assumptions¶
- Verdanni characters are assumed to understand political maneuvering and social consequence, even if they personally reject them.
- Verdanni rarely act without considering long-term outcomes.
- Open, reckless violence is culturally discouraged unless it serves a larger plan.
Playing a Verdanni means accepting that patience is not passivity, and restraint is not weakness.
Playing a Verdanni¶
When creating a Verdanni character, consider:
- What change they are trying to make.
- How long they are willing to wait to see it happen.
- And what they are willing to sacrifice to ensure it does.
Playing a Verdanni is about intentional motion rather than endurance. They are not content to simply survive history. They want to redirect it. Verdanni characters often feel calm, composed, and deliberate, but that calm hides planning rather than acceptance.
At the table, a Verdanni often operates one or two steps ahead of the immediate scene. They shine in moments where alliances shift, resources matter, or the environment itself can be leveraged. Their strength is not speed, but timing.
Verdanni magic and abilities reinforce this approach. Growth is applied where it matters most. Pressure is sustained, not explosive. When a Verdanni finally acts decisively, it is usually because the moment has been carefully prepared.
Socially, Verdanni are rarely blunt. They prefer implication, precedent, and quiet leverage. Lean into subtlety. Let other characters speak first. Let silence and context do work for you.
When roleplaying a Verdanni, consider:
- framing actions as part of longer arcs,
- treating alliances as living things that must be tended,
- allowing patience to coexist with deep conviction,
- and remembering that plants do not rush, but they do reshape landscapes.
A Verdanni does not endure the world as it is. They cultivate the world they intend to inherit.
