Sektarri Appearance and Physiology¶
The Sektarri are feline humanoids shaped by heat, stone, and empire. Their bodies reflect a culture built on control, endurance, and hierarchy, rather than speed or brute force. Where other Peoples adapt to the world, the Sektarri expect the world to be shaped, ordered, and made to serve.
At a distance, a Sektarri might be mistaken for a lithe, short-statured catfolk. Up close, the illusion fades quickly. Their movements are economical rather than graceful, their posture deliberate rather than relaxed, and their presence carries an unmistakable weight of authority and restraint.
Stature and Build¶
Sektarri are shorter than most Peoples of Kaernest. Adult males average around four and a half feet tall, with females slightly shorter, though both build to proportions closer to Humans than to small folk. They are compact, dense, and strong for their size, with broad shoulders, thick torsos, and powerful legs.
This build is not accidental. Sektarri bodies are designed for standing long hours, wearing layered armor, enduring heat, and holding position rather than pursuing or fleeing. They do not look fast, and they are not meant to. They look unyielding.
Their mass is carried low, giving them exceptional balance. This, combined with their tails, makes them difficult to knock prone and well suited to uneven stone floors, steep ramps, and narrow causeways common in imperial architecture.
Fur, Coloration, and Markings¶
Sektarri fur is short, dense, and practical. It lies close to the body and resists dust and heat, shedding little. Coloration tends toward earth and metal tones: sand, ochre, ash, bronze, iron-gray, and muted gold. Bright or high-contrast patterns are uncommon and often discouraged socially, as they draw attention in ways considered undignified.
Patterns resemble those of domestic cats rather than great cats. Ticking, subtle striping, and soft marbling are common. Bold rosettes or dramatic contrasts are rare and sometimes associated with foreign lineage or lower social standing.
Many Sektarri intentionally dye or treat sections of their fur, especially around the eyes, ears, and shoulders. These treatments are symbolic rather than decorative, marking rank, affiliation, or ceremonial role. Such markings are carefully maintained and removed when no longer appropriate.
Head, Eyes, and Expression¶
Sektarri faces are unmistakably feline, with short muzzles, pronounced cheekbones, and forward-facing eyes. Their ears are upright and mobile, capable of fine adjustment that communicates mood and attention far more clearly than facial expression alone.
Their eyes are large and luminous, adapted to low light. Iris colors tend toward gold, amber, green, and copper. Whites of the eyes are minimal, contributing to an intense, unreadable gaze. Prolonged eye contact is a deliberate act among the Sektarri, often used to assert dominance or demand attention.
Sektarri expressions are restrained. Smiles are rare. Emotion is shown through posture, tail position, ear angle, and stillness more than through facial movement. Outsiders often misread Sektarri calm as disinterest or hostility, when it is usually discipline.
Claws, Hands, and Tails¶
Sektarri possess retractable claws on both hands and feet. These claws are strong and sharp, useful for climbing, gripping stone, and combat when necessary. Social norms strongly discourage casual claw display. Uncontrolled clawing is associated with immaturity or barbarism.
Their hands are dexterous, capable of fine manipulation, tool use, and precise craftsmanship. Despite their claws, Sektarri artisans are highly skilled in metalwork, engraving, and delicate assembly.
The tail is an integral part of Sektarri balance and communication. Thick at the base and tapering gradually, it aids in stability and rapid adjustment of stance. Tail movement is culturally significant. A still tail indicates focus or restraint. Slow, deliberate motion often signals irritation or warning.
Senses and Physical Adaptation¶
Sektarri senses are acute but controlled. Their hearing is sharp, particularly attuned to subtle sounds in stone halls and enclosed spaces. Their vision excels in dim or flickering light, making torch-lit interiors and night travel less hazardous.
They tolerate heat exceptionally well. Their bodies regulate temperature efficiently, and they are comfortable in environments that exhaust other Peoples. Cold affects them more than heat, and prolonged exposure to damp or chill is considered unhealthy.
Despite their feline ancestry, Sektarri do not possess heightened sprint speed or burst agility. Instead, they excel at endurance, sustained effort, and maintaining readiness over long periods. They are built to last.
Health, Aging, and Physical Presence¶
Sektarri mature slightly faster than Humans but age more slowly once adulthood is reached. Physical prime lasts long, especially for those living near the Canopus River and within imperial infrastructure. Health is strongly tied to diet, climate, and proximity to imperial resources.
Illness among the Sektarri is treated as a failure of order rather than fate. Weakness is addressed swiftly and practically. Recovery is expected, and lingering frailty is socially uncomfortable.
Even unarmed and unarmored, a Sektarri carries the physical confidence of someone accustomed to authority. Their bodies are not flashy, not expressive, and not decorative. They are tools of continuity, shaped to endure, command, and persist.
A Sektarri does not need to appear imposing. They expect the world to adjust around them, and more often than not, it does.
